April on a path, primroses in hand, a mother and daughter moving through the season together. Fred Hines caught it exactly.
This is an original vintage chromolithograph calendar page — a watercolor by British artist Fred Hines (1860–1930), believed titled "A Girl Picking Primroses with Her Mother," artist-signed lower left, printed "April" in decorative lettering at the base. Circa 1930s or earlier. One available. Unframed.
Fred Hines was a British watercolorist and illustrator working in the late Victorian and Edwardian tradition, known for his tender, luminous scenes of women and children in gardens and countryside settings. His work was reproduced for calendars and decorative prints during his lifetime and represents the finest expression of the genre — quiet, warm, beautifully observed. This chromolithograph reproduces his watercolor in full color on heavy card stock, the artist's signature clearly visible. An original calendar page, not a reproduction.
Two small marginal tears and edge wear are noted — neither will be visible once matted and framed, which is the ideal presentation for a piece of this age and character. Framing is strongly recommended to preserve it.
A wonderful piece for a Fred Hines collector, a lover of Victorian and Edwardian watercolor illustration, a cottagecore interior, or anyone who wants genuine antique botanical and figurative art on their wall.
