Entacmea quadricolor -  The Watermelon Rose Bubble Tip Anemone is a stunning color morph of the Bubble Tip Anemone, prized for its vibrant blend of rich rose red coloration accented by bright green highlights that resemble the rind of a watermelon. Under reef lighting, its fluorescent colors become even more striking, making it an eye catching centerpiece in any reef aquarium.

Like other Bubble Tip Anemones, this variety naturally seeks out a secure crevice in the rockwork where it can firmly attach its foot while extending its colorful tentacles into the current. Once settled, it is generally hardy and can thrive for many years in a mature, stable reef aquarium.

The Watermelon Rose Bubble Tip Anemone forms a fascinating symbiotic relationship with some clownfish, providing them with shelter while benefiting from the nutrients they contribute. While many clownfish readily accept Bubble Tip Anemones as hosts, the natural partner for this species are Maroon Clownfish.

This anemone is photosynthetic, but occasional feedings of small pieces of marine based meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, or high quality frozen foods can promote healthy growth and encourage splitting in well established systems.

Care Requirements

  • Scientific Name: Entacmaea quadricolor
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Temperament: Semi-aggressive (stinging)
  • Lighting: Moderate to High
  • Flow: Moderate, indirect flow
  • Diet: Photosynthesis supplemented with occasional meaty foods

Notes

  • Allow the anemone to choose its own location after introduction. Moving it repeatedly can increase stress.

  • A mature, stable aquarium with consistent salinity, alkalinity, and temperature is strongly recommended before adding any anemone.
